Mobile Applications

The world has gone mobile! More and more people now use their smart phones to search for things on the go rather than sitting in front of computers at home or in the office. Today mobile communication is so integrated into our lives that many people feel uncomfortable without a cell phone because it is a multi functional device that not only communicates, but helps to learn, earn, and have fun. This is made possible by the development of mobile applications.

Mobile applications are some kind of computer programs which are designed to run on mobile devices. The mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computer are very familiar to our lives today without any age or class differences. At the past there was mobile phones that had most popular functions of phones were calling and sending texts. Those are the first mobile applications used in mobile phones. Typically, they were small arcade games, ring tone editors, calculators, calendars, and so forth. It is the beginning of the new millennium saw a rapid market evolution of mobile content and applications. Mobile applications date back to the end of the twentieth century.

There are several mobile applications which are commonly used today and which are not too much popular. But it is true that there are applications more than the population in our country. Mobile apps that are not pre-installed are usually available through distribution platforms called app stores. They began typically operated by the owner of the mobile operating system. Through different platforms we can install these mobile apps to our smart phone or tablet. For examples,

  • Google Play is an international online software store developed by Google for Android devices.
  • Apple's App Store for iOS.
  • BlackBerry World is the application store for BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry OS devices.
  • Ovi (Nokia) for Nokia phones.
  • Windows Phone Store was introduced by Microsoft for its Windows Phone platform.
  • Windows Store was introduced by Microsoft for its Windows 8 and Windows RT platforms.
  • Samsung Apps for Windows Mobile, Android and Bada platforms.

Not only that there are many other independent app stores for Android devices.

Usage of mobile apps is some kind of trick used by mobile phone companies to increase their mobile phone users. Developing a mobile app is not funny or easy. Why I said that is now days it became a part of a software engineering industry. When we develop a mobile app it is essential to consider both non-functional and functional requirements such as Mobile user interface Design, constraints and contexts, screen, input and mobility as outlines for design, authorization, authentication etc. because the user is often the focus of interaction with their device, and the interface components of both hardware and software.
When we are talking about the mobile apps we can use them to many purposes. Mobile apps have one clear advantage in general, a well-made app can provide a far better user experience than even the best websites are capable of right now.
